Derek Barnett the clear favorite among New Orleans Saints mock drafts

New, comments

As we come to the end of January, we sampled a host of NFL mock drafts to see who the hot name is associated with the Saints.

The New Orleans Saints have many questions to answer over the next couple of months, and most fans are very interested in the approach the team will take in the NFL Draft. By now, you’ve probably seen at least a double-digit amount of mock drafts. They’ll only grow until the end of April, and naturally projecting someone at this point in time without going through free agency figures to be throwing darts on the board.

However, that doesn’t mean there’s no point in taking a look at the various prospects that could be available when the Saints pick at No. 11. I combed through some 26 mock drafts out there from a combination of media outlets to piece together popular picks for the black and gold. Some drafts span across three rounds, but here’s a brief outlook.

2017 Saints Mock Draft Compendium John Hendrix

Tennessee’s Derek Barnett, a very popular and dominant edge rusher, is the most popular pick mocked to the Saints. Of the 26 sampled mocks, nine of them (35 percent) had Barnett. Whether it be a coincidence or not, 20-of-26 mocks had SEC defenders going to the Saints. Many will be happy to know that all selections were defense.
