The Adrian Peterson experiment is over for New Orleans. Reported by multiple sources this morning, the Saints have traded the 32-yr. old Peterson to the Arizona Cardinals for a conditional draft pick in 2018.

Peterson was signed to a two year contract this offseason, after a ten year career with Minnesota where he rushed for 11,747 yards and 97 touchdowns. Unfortunately, Peterson was unable to make an impact with the Saints, rushing for just 81 yards on 27 carries and no scores in four games. Arizona hopes Peterson will provide a spark for their struggling offense, particularly a running game that has suffered since losing their All-Pro back David Johnson for the year.
The Saints have shown in recent weeks that they were moving away from Peterson in the offense, using Mark Ingram for the bulk of the carries, while versatile rookie Alvin Kamara continues to receive more snaps and becoming a bigger part of the offense. Rookie free agent Trey Edmunds and 2nd year Daniel Lasco will be looked at first by New Orleans to move up the depth chart and provide complimentary snaps and depth.
