If you're a daily fantasy player, before each game I will look at three/four players from the New Orleans Saints and their opponent’s rosters that I would target in daily fantasy (based off their value and potential results). Obviously, Saints QB Drew Brees is a safe QB for daily fantasy leagues, but spending your money on a top-tier starting QB leaves you scraping the barrel to fill out the rest of your roster.
So here are three Saints and one Packer that provide the most bang for your buck. (Values from Fanduel.)
QB Drew Brees (NO) - $8,300
After a poor showing last week against the Lions, the cost for Drew Brees actually dropped $300 from the week before. He costs only $900 cheaper than the most expensive QB available, but has a total of 5 QBs ahead of him in price. The Saints won’t be able to win each week on the back of multiple defensive touchdowns, so look for Drew Brees to have a big bounce-back game.
RB Ty Montgomtery (GB) - $6,500
We’ve seen the Saints struggle with pass-catching Running Backs, and Ty Mongtomery is just that. His sickle-cell trait has caused him to struggle with nagging injuries this season, but he returned to action last week in a timeshare with rookie Aaron Jones. Jones struggles in pass-protection and is more of a between-the-tackles runner, so in a game that looks to keep the Packers in catch-up mode, Montgomery should see a heavy workload. Coming in a whopping $3,200 cheaper than the most expensive RB available, he’s a great value play.
WR Michael Thomas (NO) - $7,700
Going back to the theme of a bounce back for the Saints offense, Thomas was held largely in check last week, finishing with only three catches for under fifteen yards. He’s a better player than his stat line from last week would indicate, and look for Drew Brees to reward his patience last week with a heavily-targeted game this week. He comes $1,600 cheaper than the most expensive WR available this week, so there’s still value to be had here.
Saints DST (@ GB) - $4,500
I honestly cannot believe I’m saying this, but I think the Saints DST in daily fantasy is a good play this week. They are only $500 more expensive than the cheapest DST (the 49ers who play the Cowboys), but a full $1,000 cheaper than the most expensive (Seattle, who gets to face off against the Giants this week). In what sounded like a laughable proposition after the season’s first two weeks, the Saints DST against the Packers (who will be in their first game without Aaron Rodgers) might be a sneaky value play this week.
My full daily fantasy lineup this week:
QB Drew Brees (NO) - $8,300
RB Ty Montgomery (GB) - $6,500
RB Devonta Freeman (ATL) - $7,800
WR Michael Thomas (NO) - $7,700

WR John Brown (ARI) - $5,900
TE Rob Gronkowski (NE) - $8,500

DST Saints (@ GB) - $4,500
