If you're a daily fantasy player, before each game I will look at three/four players from the New Orleans Saints and their opponent’s rosters that I would target in daily fantasy (based off their value and potential results). However, since the Saints are on their Bye week, I thought I’d broaden the range to include both NFC South teams in action this week. Obviously, Saints QB Drew Brees is a safe QB for daily fantasy leagues, but spending your money on a top-tier starting QB leaves you scraping the barrel to fill out the rest of your roster.
So here are four Buccaneers and one Panther that provide the most bang for your buck. (Values from Fanduel.)
QB Jameis Winston (TB) - $7,700
It’s not the Saints so far this year, it’s actually the New England Patriots who have the statistically worst defense in the NFL. Winston comes surprisingly cheap ($1,800 less than the most expensive QB available) with this favorable matchup, so hope for a high-scoring game.
WR Mike Evans (TB) - $8,900
Evans is actually tied for the most expensive WR available this week (with Odell Beckham Jr), but there still might be value to be had here. So far this season, Evans has averaged the 5th most fantasy points per game (granted, in one less game) and will be facing a porous Patriots secondary.
TE Cameron Brate (TB) - $5,500
Sticking with Winston and his pass-catchers, Brate comes a whopping $2,300 cheaper than his counterpart Rob Gronkowski in this matchup and has averaged the 4th most fantasy points per game thus far. Coby Fleener caught a TD against the Patriots. If Fleener can do it, so can Brate.
K Nick Folk (TB) - $4,500
Tight Ends, Defenses and Kickers are where you can find sneaky value, where the performance difference between the most expensive and the cheapest at their position is not as big as it would be at QB, RB or WR. Folk is among the cheapest Kickers you can buy in daily fantasy, and again, we’re just hoping for a high-scoring contest.
WR Devin Funchess (CAR) - $6,300
Funchess doesn’t have as good of a matchup as the Buccaneers receivers when he faces off against the Detroit defense, but Funchess’s value ($2,600 cheaper than the most expensive WRs available) still hasn’t caught up with his recent performance. Until it does, he’s a great value play.
My full daily fantasy lineup this week:
