He’s the first Saint to win Rookie of the Month honors since Reggie Bush in 2006.

Sit down, because you’re about to stand up: a New Orleans Saints rookie has been named NFL Rookie of the Month for the first time in eleven years, and it’s Marshon Lattimore.

The Ohio State Buckeyes product has been a revelation, locking down everyone who lines up against him and entering All-Pro considerations. Some fans of opposing teams I’ve interacted with on Twitter are even beginning to fear his pass defense more than Drew Brees and the legendary Saints offense, if you can believe it.

I think Saints fans all owe a thank-you to the ten teams who passed on Lattimore in the 2017 NFL Draft (the Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, New York Jets, Los Angeles Chargers, Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, and Kansas City Chiefs. The Buffalo Bills also traded out of their spot and chance to get Lattimore, so let’s make it eleven teams for good measure.)

For the curious, here is the total listing of NFL Players of the Month for Octobor:

  • NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month: Marshon Lattimore, New Orleans Saints
  • NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month: Deshaun Watson, Houston Texans
  • AFC Offensive Player of the Month: Deshaun Watson, Houston Texans
  • AFC Defensive Player of the Month: Micah Hyde, Buffalo Bills
  • AFC Special Teams Player of the Month: Harrison Butker, Kansas City Chiefs
  • NFC Offensive Player of the Month: Carson Wentz, Philadelphia Eagles
  • NFC Defensive Player of the Month: Everson Griffen, Minnesota Vikings
  • NFC Special Teams Player of the Month: Greg Zuerlein, Los Angeles Rams
