The New Orleans Saints have placed linebacker A.J. Klein (groin) on injured reserve, according to the NFL’s Transaction Report on Tuesday. The team also signed tight end John Phillips in a corresponding move.

In his place, Manti Te’o and Craig Robertson will likely continue to be the starters, while Michael Mauti, Gerald Hodges, and Jonathan Freeny are their current reserve options. The team would also look to their practice squad and call up Adam Bighill, if needed. Unfortunately, Klein’s season is over, but has made some memorable moments in his first season with New Orleans.

As for Phillips, he rejoins the Saints after landing on injured reserve at the end of August. He was added to the team late in the 2016 season, and re-signed in March. Perhaps the need for a fourth tight end could be an indication of Michael Hoomanwanui (concussion) missing some time. Of course, we’ll know more once the Wednesday injury report drops.
