Hello, Who Dat Nation! I’m Brenden Ertle, a new writer for Canal St. Chronicles. A little background info about myself. I was the managing editor at Cover 32 New Orleans, I also write for The Bird Writes also here at SB Nation. You can find me on Twitter @BrendenE_Saints, now to the news you want to hear.
The Saints placed tight end Coby Fleener on injured Reserve with a concussion. This is Fleener’s fifth concussion of his career, not a good stat line to have before he’s even 30. Fleener has had 22 catches for 295 yards and two touchdowns, not the numbers we are use to seeing for a Saints tight end. His value to the team is more important than most people think. It's unclear if his season is over or if they made the move to make room for tight end Garrett Griffin that they promoted to the active roster from the practice squad.
For the time being, Fleener is out. Josh Hill and Michael Hoomanawanui will be his replacement, and neither have the receiving abilities Fleener has, but both are capable.
The team also cut cornerback De’Vante Harris, who disappointed throughout the season when replacing Marshon Lattimore and Ken Crawley. Harris was benched late in the game against the Rams and replaced by Sterling Moore, that was the end of his time in New Orleans. He was an undrafted free agent from Texas A&M in 2016.
The Saints promoted cornerback Arthur Maulet to the active roster from the practice squad. Maulet has appeared in one game this season, Week 3 against the Panthers.
