Stop me when you’ve heard this one before, but Marshon Lattimore was voted the NFL’s Rookie of the Week.
For the fourth time this season, the Saints’ stud corner was deemed the league’s most remarkable rookie after a six tackle, four pass break up and one Twitter-breaking interception made off his own butt against the Falcons in the Superdome.
Matched up against Julio Jones, Lattimore only allowed Jones to record three catches in true man-to-man coverage situations. Some will say Jones “torched” Lattimore Sunday with a seven-catch, 149 outing but those people need to look a tad bit closer at the tape.
Lattimore’s five interceptions is fifth in the NFL; he has only allowed two catches of 25 yards or more and has yet to give up a touchdown in coverage.
The Saints’ Pro Bowl corner’s four Rookie of the Week awards is second to only his fellow Pro Bowl teammate Alvin Kamara’s six. The Saints have won the award 10 times this season, further vindicating Jeff Ireland’s college scouting abilities and making this 2017 draft class’ case for greatest in franchise history that much stronger.
