As March begins, the two most important parts of the offseason have begun. The NFL Combine began a couple of days ago and the free agency period starts in less than a week. Very shortly we will have a better picture of what New Orleans’ plan is moving into 2017.
There may be some hints being dropped by the front office and staff right now, if who they are meeting at the Combine is any indication. So far, the Saints have had interviews with seven players. Of those seven, many fall under the umbrella of two positions.
In February, Sean Payton listed edge rushers and cornerbacks as positions of need on Sirius XM Radio. "Listen, there's a pass rusher must, an edge player, Fortunately, there's a few of those in the draft. There's a corner must. Fortunately, that's a deep position in the draft this year as well.” So far, one of those positions is getting quite a bit of attention during the interview process.
Obviously interviews alone do not provide enough information to indicate New Orleans’ plan, but it can provide some insight. Quarterbacks and defensive linemen are high on the Saints’ wish-list right now, if the following is any indication.
Carlos Henderson, WR, Louisiana Tech
Keionta Davis, DE, Tennessee-Chattanooga
