After the New Orleans Saints lost back-up Running Back Tim Hightower to the San Francisco in free agency, rumors began swirling about whether or not the Saints would look to add Stanford standout RB Christian McCaffery in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Well, now it looks like the Saints might have found their back-up RB in former MVP Adrian Peterson.
Sources: #Saints & Adrian Peterson believed to be closing in on a deal that’d pay him $3M+ in ’17. Not done, but moving in that direction.

With the Saints officially adding AP into the fold in the backfield this morning, the Saints will have one less hole to address in this year’s draft.
Mel Kiper and Todd McShay (Insider Required) recently alternated picks in their most recent mock draft, with Kiper giving McCaffrey to the Saints:
I don't think McCaffrey is making it here on draft night, but he'd be a tremendous asset for Drew Brees.
It’s definitely no guarantee that McCaffrey is even on the board when the Saints are on the clock at 11 overall. Over at Odds Shark, one of three prop bets for the 2017 NFL Draft focused on is whether or not McCaffrey goes in the top 9 selections in the first round. General consensus now is that McCaffrey at least goes in the Top 10.
Christian McCaffrey is going top ten. Put it in ink. #Panthers.

However, even if McCaffrey is there for the Saints (which is not the likely scenario), the possible addition of Adrian Peterson likely leads the Saints to pass on the gifted (and younger) Running Back.
