What is the biggest distraction for the Saints in 2017?

There are plenty of potential pitfalls.

NFL: New Orleans Saints at Arizona Cardinals Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

It’s no secret that Adrian Peterson brings with him a ton of off-the-field baggage to New Orleans. Tom Benson isn’t getting any younger. With the “successful” move of both the Chargers and Rams, and the eventual move of the Raiders, might the Saints be next to go? Will Sean Payton be on the hot seat if the Saints get off to a slow start? How will the Saints offense perform after trading away Brandin Cooks? You know the Saints’ passing attack is going to be under a microscope now...

There are tons of obvious storylines that could be major distractions for the Saints in 2017. Bleacher Report listed the biggest potential distraction for all 32 teams, and none of the above made the list. For Bleacher Report, the biggest possible distraction is none other than Drew Brees himself:

Now, if Brees comes out and throws for 4,500-plus yards again and the Saints have even a decent season, this will take care of itself next year. Brees will get another short-term deal for a big bowl of gumbo, and everyone will be happy. But what if he doesn't? What if he starts to show his age? What if the Saints struggle to win six games and finish in last place in the NFC South? What if (heaven forbid) he were to get hurt?

Drew Brees is the face of the Saints. It's unthinkable for fans of the team to even consider him ever playing anywhere else. But life after No. 9 is coming whether they want it to or not. And the specter of that is the absolute last thing the Saints want looming over the team.

The Saints have already made headlines in thinking about life after Brees with the potential selection of QB Pat Mahomes in the 2017 NFL Draft. Chase Daniel has been brought back to New Orleans on a one-year deal, and Chase has openly admitted that taking up the mantle after Drew retires was part of what drew him to New Orleans. Fans, players, and the organization itself are all already thinking about life after Brees, but what about you? Do you think it will be a potential distraction for the Saints in 2017? If not, what do you think is the biggest potential pot hole distraction for the team next year? Tell us in the comments. Send me presents.
