Countdown to New Orleans Saints kickoff: A History of No. 95

We sit only 95 days from the kickoff of the 2017 New Orleans Saints season. Canal Street Chronicles continues our historical countdown today with a look at some Saints players that have worn the number 95 throughout their 51-year history.

Austin "Tootie" Robbins (DT, 1996-1999)

Robbins bookended his NFL career with the Raiders; coming in as a Los Angeles Raider in 1994, and finishing out with Oakland in 2000. His time in New Orleans began as the successful Jim Mora Saints teams had crumbled. Robbins was a solid defensive tackle over his career, but there was only remnants of a once powerful Saints defense left around him. The Saints finished with a losing record in all four of Robbins' seasons in New Orleans.

Martez Wilson (LB, 2011-2013)

Wilson was drafted in the 3rd round by New Orleans from the University of Illinois in 2011. After 29 tackles for loss, including nine sacks, in college, it was hoped that Wilson would bring a pass rushing presence off the edge. Despite a career-high 3 sacks in 2012, Wilson never really found a home in the Saints Rob Ryan-coached defense. After being moved between linebacker and defensive end, Wilson was released four games into the 2013 season.

Tyeler Davison (DT, 2015-present)

"The Rhino" was drafted in the 5th round by the Saints in 2015. Davison hasn't yet been the disruptive force that he was in college at Fresno State, but he has helped bring a stronger interior force to the New Orleans defensive line (he did play through an injury, however). He started 15 contests last season after playing in every game as a rookie, and looks to play an even larger role going forward in a tackle rotation with Sheldon Rankins, Nick Fairley, and David Onyemata.
