New Orleans Saints Expected to Finish 4th in the NFC South?

New, comments

That’s what early betting lines seem to indicate.

The Atlanta Falcons not only won the NFC South, but were NFC Conference Champions in 2016. The year before, it was the Carolina Panthers. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hope the trend continues and that they find themselves in the Super Bowl this coming February. All three teams look to have improved from the year before, and all three are favored to win the division over the New Orleans Saints.

At NFL Sportsbook TopBet, you can view current Futures Bets for the 2017 NFL season. Odds for each team reaching winning their respective division, reach the Super Bowl, and winning it all are all laid out. In the Saints’ division, the NFC South, the Saints have the lowest odds (+425) of winning the division. The best odds are behind the defending NFC Champion Atlanta Falcons (+155), followed by last year’s Conference Champion Panthers (+200), and then by the young Bucs team (+320), all before the Saints.

Granted, the NFC South is the tightest division from top to bottom (according to odd-differential) in the NFC. Divisions like the North (with the Packers and Bears) and West (with the Seahawks and 49ers), have huge disparities between the projected first and last-place finishers.

Speaking of the Bears and 49ers, they along with the Los Angeles Rams and - surprisingly - the Detroit Lions, are the only teams with higher odds of winning the NFC. The current favorite is the Dallas Cowboys (+500), only slightly edging out the Green Bay Packers.

And if you’re feeling especially froggy, the Saints are +5000 against winning the Super Bowl, the same odds given to teams like the Tennessee Titans and Cincinnati Bengals.
