With training camp in full swing, position battles are getting all of the attention in the football world. For the Saints, the battle for the fourth Wide Receiver spot is still up in the air with Michael Thomas, Willie Snead and Ted Ginn Jr. holding down the fort one through three. Brandon Coleman is the odds-on favorite and getting rave reviews from Sean Payton, but there’s another name that could make camp a lot more interesting.
Travin Dural was just named the “Best” Undrafted Free Agent on the New Orleans Saints at Training Camp by Bleacher Report. I use “best” in quotation marks as I am honestly and sincerely uncertain as to what Bleacher Report means when they use that word, but in any event, they must like what they see about the former LSU standout:
The Tigers have a run-heavy offense, and...[t]hat was great for anyone who enjoys watching a uniquely talented running back. It was less great for...wide receiver Travin Dural, who caught only 28 passes for 280 yards over nine games in 2016. But there is still a solid season on his college resume, as Dural showed his deep speed with 20.5 yards per reception, 758 yards overall and seven touchdowns in 2014. He also posted 111 rushing yards that season.
Whether or not Dural makes the team beating out Brandon Coleman for the 4th WR position, it has nothing to do with whether or not he breaks camp as a Special Teams player.
In any event, look for Dural to potentially be suited up for the New Orleans Saints in Week 1. And make sure you listen for Saints fans still crying, “But the Saints never add players from LSU...”
