The New Orleans Saints 2017 regular season begins in just 69 days from today. The Saints will take on the Minnesota Vikings on Monday, September 11, in the season opener for both teams. Canal Street Chronicles resumes our series of countdown to kickoff with a look at the Saints players that have worn the number 69.

Les Miller (NT, 1991-1994)

Miller was acquired by the Saints after spending his first four years with the San Diego Chargers. Although he started just 18 of his 53 games with the Saints, Miller was part of the defensive line rotation on coach Jim Mora's Dome Patrol units of the early 1990s. He had 4.5 of his 20 career sacks while with New Orleans, but rejoined the Chargers midway through the '94 season. Miller finished out the last 3 years of his career with the Carolina Panthers.

Tom Ackerman (OG/C, 1996-2001)

Ackerman was drafted in the 5th round by the Saints in the 1996 draft out of Eastern Washington. Although he would only start 18 games during his six years with New Orleans, he appeared in 60 out of the 64 Saints games over his last five seasons. Ackerman was part of an offensive line that paved the way for two 1,000-yard rushing seasons by Ricky Williams in 2000 and 2001, and helped the Saints to a division title in 2000.

Anthony Hargrove (DT, 2009-2010)

Hargrove was a 3rd round pick of the St. Louis Rams in the 2004 draft from Georgia Tech. He experienced some success as a defensive end with the Rams, but was traded to Buffalo early in the 2006 season. Struggles with substance abuse led to multiple league suspensions, including a year long suspension forcing him to miss 2008, and leading to his release from the Bills.

The Saints signed Hargrove as a free agent in 2009, and a move to defensive tackle allowed Hargrove to be a key part of the Saints Super Bowl championship defense. He had 5 sacks during that season, along with 3 fumble recoveries and a touchdown. Hargrove departed New Orleans after the 2010 season to sign with Seattle, and then was implicated as a major part of the "Bountygate" scandal in 2012 while a member of the Saints.

For his role in the accusations of players receiving bonuses for injuring opponents, Hargrove received an eight game suspension. Although the suspension was eventually overturned, Hargrove had taken his last NFL regular season snap with the Seahawks.

Other Saints players to wear No. 69: Dave Davis (1974), Andy Dorris (1975-76), Oakley Dalton (1977), Bill Fifer (1978), Nat Hudson (1981), Ralph Williams (1985-86), Pat Swoopes (1987, 1989), McKinley Boykin (2007), Eric Olsen (2012-14), C.J. Wilson (2016), Khalif Barnes (2016-present)
