Minnesota Vikings fans are expressing their gratitude towards New Orleans Saints punter Thomas Morstead, and the support has been overwhelming. Morstead got hurt early on in the NFC Divisional Playoff matchup after making a touchdown-saving tackle after a punt. He toughed it out in what ended up being torn cartilage on the right side of his ribs.
You could tell how much pain Morstead was in, but he kept on doing his job.
The Saints suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the game’s final seconds, and after the team left the field in the ensuing bedlam, there was still an extra point to be kicked. Morstead was one of the first guys back on the field, exhibiting tremendous sportsmanship in the process.
A Vikings fan responded accordingly via a post on Reddit, encouraging fans to donate to Morstead’s What You Give Will Grow foundation. As of early Wednesday afternoon, over $62,000 has been raised by over 1,230 donors. The entire amount of these proceeds will go to Children’s Minnesota Child Life Program.
“I’m totally blown away by people’s generosity,” Morstead told me.
It’s a classy move, to say the least. Go here to learn more: http://vikings.wygwg.org
