The Saints signed Dez Bryant to a one year deal, but also worked out two other receivers at the time they brought in Bryant.
Bryant’s contributions would be limited to a brief practice time before a torn Achilles sent him to IR. For all the talk of him being a locker room cancer he fit in quickly and the X was thrown up frequently in tribute on Sunday, during the Bengals rout. Someone else who impressed during his workout was WR Brandon Marshall. After the game it was widely reported that the Saints were bringing Marshall in today, and hoped to sign him.
News recently broke this morning that the deal is done, Brandon Marshall is reported to be signing a one year deal, which I would expect to be very similar to the Dez Bryant one.
Actual figures aren’t available right now, but the source says it’s a one year deal. Like Bryant’s it would be prorated for the remaining seven games.
Veteran WR Brandon Marshall is signing a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints, per source. In his 13-year NFL career, Marshall never has played in a playoff game; his chance now awaits.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) November 12, 2018
As a thirteen year veteran, Marshall will draw a slightly higher vet minimum. Hard to believe he has never played in a playoff game. Drafted in the fourth round by the Denver Broncos in the 2006 draft, he played with the Broncos from 2006 to 2009. He then played for the Dolphins, Bears, Jets, and Giants. He was signed by the Seattle Seahawks in 2018, and after six games was released. During his career he has 970 receptions, 12.351 yards and 83 touchdowns. The 6’5” wide receiver will add another redzone target for quarterback Drew Brees.
Coach Sean Payton has confirmed the signing.
