Pair of QBs Deemed “Best Fit” for New Orleans Saints

One is a surprise, the other, well not so much.

With so many QBs on the free agent market or projected to go early in the 2018 NFL Draft, there are plenty of options the New Orleans Saints should entertain with only back-up QB Taysom Hill under contract for the Saints next season.

NFL.com then identified the “best team fits” for top QBs available this offseason. The first? A QB you might have heard of: free agent Drew Brees.

This is the prediction I’m most confident about. Brees is still playing at a high level and the Saints won’t let him walk away. Although, I could see them adding a young quarterback in the draft to be his eventual replacement (see below in the draft prospects section).

What draft prospect would the analyst(s) be speaking of? Another player you might have heard of: Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield.

This would be the perfect fit for Mayfield. He could sit and learn behind a future Hall of Famer in Brees, who also happens to be the same size as Mayfield. If Mayfield starts to slide a little bit, I could easily see Sean Payton aggressively moving up to get him.

It’s been discussed plenty around here, but if Mayfield starts slipping to the early teens in the first round, it will be Red Alert for the Saints making a blockbuster trade up.
