As expected the Cardinals have decided to part ways with the talented Safety. And it happens the Honey Badger is in town for a charity benefit. The Saints likely have interest in Tyrann Mathieu, since Kenny Vaccaro is no longer in the teams plans.
Cardinals have informed the Tyrann Mathieau The Honey Badger they are releasing him
— Jay Glazer (@JayGlazer) March 14, 2018
Tyrann was drafted by the Cardinals 69th overall in the 3rd round of the 2013 NFL Draft. The talented player had issues in college ultimately being release from LSU in 2012, reportedly for numerous failed drug test.
While drugs have not been a problem during his NFL career, he has had injury issues. In 2013 and again in 2015 he was placed on IR with ACL injuries. He also finished 2016 on IR with a shoulder injury.
The Cardinals moved Mathieu to cornerback in 2015 and he can play both safety and cornerback positions. Arizona will carry 9.3 mil in dead cap for releasing him, but Tyrann was not interested in taking a cut to remain with the team. We have the necessary space to make a move for the player, but the question is how much money to give him considering his injury history.
