The New Orleans Saints have signed veteran running back Shane Vereen former New England Patriot and New York Giant, according to NFL Networks Mike Garafolo, also confirmed by New Orleans Saints beat writer Nick Underhill. The Saints tried out Vereen earlier this offseason along with Terrance West.
Vereen is more of a skat back than bruising runner, he has produced more receiving yards (1,864) than rushing (1,489) in his seven years in the league. The Saints have signed two different kinds of runners in Vereen and West, Vereen will compete with Boston Scott for the “skat back” role behind Alvin Kamara.
Can confirm the Saints are signing Shane Vereen. @MikeGarafolo had it first.

Shane Vereen is coming off a 2017 campaign in which he rushed for 164 yards and caught 44 balls for 253 yards in 16 games. It was a down year for Vereen, but he is likely looking to put himself back on the right track if he can earn time during Mark Ingram’s suspension.
Saints have a large committee of running backs to fill the void by Mark Ingram going into Training Camp. Vereen will now compete with Trey Edmunds, Jonathan Williams, Terrance West, and Daniel Lasco. With Training camp around the corner the competition at running back will be very interesting to watch. The Saints now have also brought in multiple skillset options that would not only provide relief for Ingram’s suspension, but depth behind Kamara as receivers out of the backfield should they make the 53 man roster.
