Saturday’s New Orleans Saints practice had one big takeaway from Sean Payton’s press conference, and it was surrounding the future of rookie Marcus Davenport. Davenport, who has been dealing with a groin pull, is expected to resume practicing this week and could make his preseason debut against the Los Angeles Chargers if all goes well.
Per reports from various outlets, Davenport was spotted at practice doing individual drills. It was just a few days ago that Payton talked about Davenport’s prognosis, saying, “The news we’re hearing is real good, so he’s going to be kind of ramping up and accelerating with regards to getting back on the field. That’s encouraging.”
The Saints have not used Alex Okafor and Cameron Jordan in preseason action yet, getting extended looks at Trey Hendrickson, Al-Quadin Muhammad, and Mitchell Loewen. Expect the team to be cautious around Davenport, who is expected to make a big impact this season.
Saturday’s game will be nationally televised on CBS at 7:00 p.m. CT, and is sure to draw a lot of eyeballs.
