Watching the Saints play when Vaughn Johnson and the rest of the Dome Patrol played was what made watching “Saints” football enjoyable for a change. I can’t say I grew up watching Vaughn play, he was a few years younger than myself, but I like to think I grew up metaphorically with him.
Vaughn Johnson played college ball for North Carolina State University, was drafted in the defunct USFL, and Joined the Saints in 1986 and played to 1993 before having a one year stint with the Philadelphia Eagles. While a member of the Dome Patrol, he made the Pro Bowl four times in a row from 1989 thru 1992. He was inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame in 2011. He had 669 career sacks, 11 forced fumbles, 12 sacks, and and 4 interceptions.
Vaughn Johnson died at the young age of 57, December 12, 2019, from kidney disease.
R.I.P. Vaughn!
