He's the corresponding move for CB Janoris Jenkins, who will wear No. 20.
The move also opens up a roster spot for Janoris Jenkins who the team claimed off of waivers after he was cut by the New York Giants.
Hampton is the ninth Saints player this season to land on IR and fourth defensive player in the past two weeks to have their season cut short. Last week Marcus Davenport, Sheldon Rankins and Johnson Bademosi all received the injury designation.
Fellow rookie defender Chauncey (CJ) Gardner-Johnson left the Monday Night Football game with a concussion after starting in place of the injured Vonn Bell. The seriousness of his concussion has yet to be stated, but Jared Cook was able to go this week after suffering one against the San Francisco 49ers.
