Also, per source, signed C Casey Dunn to the practice squad.
With a banged up secondary, the #Saints are signing versatile DB DeShawn Shead today, source said. Some reinforcements.

What makes Shead “versatile” according to Rapoport? Consider this message from 2015:
Pete Carroll: DeShawn Shead can play both safety spots, corner, nickel, dime, and special teams (wow)

With injuries to both Vonn Bell and Marcus Williams at safety, Shead can come in and provide depth at all positions in the secondary. Shead played cornerback most recently in the NFL, but played at safety this preseason and over the summer.
CJ Gardner-Johnson and PJ Williams could both find time at safety in Week 17 against the Carolina Panthers, with Shead - and the recently signed DJ Swearinger - also possibly filling in where needed.
