That’s right folks. Drew Brees “does not” make the NFL All Time Team. Of course you knew Tom Brady and Joe Montana were obvious choices. I even like “Slinging” Sammy Baugh, Otto Graham and Johnny Unitas, guys many of you may not even know anything about. I’m okay with Rodger Staubach even though he was a Cowboys QB. Staubach was a legend in his era and served his country first, before playing in the NFL.
I do have a problem with John Elway and Dan Marino being selected over our midget. I would have Terry Bradshaw over both of those guys. Let’s get a few points made here. John Elway made it to and lost two Super Bowls, in the 1986 season, Super Bowl XXI, where he threw for 1 touchdown, threw one interception, and was sacked for a safety. In the 1987 season, Super Bowl XXII he put up and an even more dismal performance against you know who, Joe Montana. He did win the NFL’s MVP Award that season, you know the award Drew Brees is constantly snubbed for. See a trend going here. He finally won a Super Bowl in the 1997 season, Super Bowl XXXII, “despite” Elway’s poor performance. One Interception and no touchdowns. He was named the MVP of Super Bowl XXXIII, the 1998 season, for throwing one touchdown, one interception, and rushing for one touchdown. Let’s not kid ourselves. Elway owes his rings to Shannon Sharpe. On the bright side they did beat the Atlanta Falcons.
Enough about John. Lets look at Dan Marino. But wait, Marino did win the NFL’s MVP award in his second season as well as losing Super Bowl XIX to you know who, Joe Montana. Yes Dan set many records in his day for yards, touchdowns and completion percentage. Peyton Manning took his TD record, 48, away from him and it’s Drew Brees who has taken most if not all of the rest of them. Dan Marino had one glorious 5,000 yard season while Mr. Brees has had five.
I’m sorry if I sound a little angry, maybe it’s because I’m very angry. Drew Brees has been constantly snubbed for the MVP award, gets little to no respect from most of the sports pundits, and I hope he gets the ultimate revenge with another Super Bowl ring this year. If he had defenses like this year’s while with the Saints, he would likely have several.
I guess I “should” post the ones who did make the All Time Team, Tom Brady, Brett Farve, Joe Montana, Sammy Baugh, Otto Graham, Johnny Unitas, Rodger Staubach, Peyton Manning and yes, John Elway and Dan Marino. Congrats I guess. Bah Humbug!
In fairness I should mention that the voting was done for this in May of 2018, you know before Drew beat his own completion percentage twice (more), passing for the most yards in NFL History, and throwing the most touchdowns in history as well.
