In unrelated Super Bowl news, it appears the New Orleans Saints have made another coaching move for the 2019 season. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the team will be bringing back defensive coordinator Dennis Allen. Per Albert Breer, it’s going to be a three-year deal that will be signed on Monday.
The news was reported on Sunday evening, stating that Allen was to receive a new deal to stay with Sean Payton. Allen’s second stint with the Saints picked back up in 2015, as he was previously with the team from 2006-2010. Upon rejoining New Orleans, he was first tabbed as a Senior Defensive Assistant in 2015 before taking over as the team’s defensive coordinator after Rob Ryan was fired midseason following a giant collapse to the Washington Redskins. Allen was reportedly drawing interest from the Bengals.
The Saints already made a decision to part ways with their special teams staff, which included Mike Westhoff. They’re expected to hire Darren Rizzi, formerly of the Dolphins.
