It would appear that the Mark Ingram era is over in New Orleans, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke news on Tuesday morning that the Saints were signing running back Latavius Murray to a 4-year, $14 million contract.
The deal averages out to $3.5 million annually for Murray, who spent the past two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. According to reports, Ingram and the Saints met to try to get a deal done, but could not agree on compensation. Officially, it’s the Alvin Kamara show in New Orleans. Ingram needed just 90 rushing yards to become the team’s all-time leader.
Murray, who is about one month younger than Ingram, could get some early down work for the Saints. He told ESPN at the end of February, “Make no mistake about it, I want to play,” Murray said. “I want to start. I’m not content with being in a backup role.”

Consider this the first shocker of free agency for New Orleans, and it’s surely not going to be the last.
