New Orleans Saints Avengers: NFL’s Mightiest Heroes

The Saints and the Avengers. Let’s have some fun!

Now that it’s the offseason and free agency is settling down, there isn’t much activity going on. However, at the end of this month, the conclusion to one of the best movie series will be here, Avengers Endgame. So I decided to have a little fun and combine two of my favorite things, the New Orleans Saints and the Avengers. In this article I will compare Saints players to the Avenger character that best represents them.

Starting out we have Drew Brees, one of the best players to ever put on a football helmet. He’s extremely accurate with a football the same way this avenger is accurate with his shield. He was always told he was too small and wouldn’t make it in the league. Reminds me of a certain avenger who was too small, no matter how much was against him he kept going and never gave up. Drew Brees is Captain America.

Next we have the leader of the defense Cameron Jordan. He does everything well and is kind of underrated. He has a wealth of skills like this avenger has a wealth of weapons. Jordan is one of the most durable players on the team just like this avenger has been very durable throughout the movies. The main trait they share is their intelligence. Jordan can read a play, knowing exactly where the ball carrier is going and then attack him. Cameron Jordan is Iron Man.

Now we come to the guy that can’t be tackled Alvin Kamara. This guy is a playmaker every time he touches the ball. He’s got that sneaky speed to him. One of his best skills is his balance. Gets hit but he won’t go down. Some of this avengers traits are enhanced reflexes, strength, speed, agility, and stamina. All these traits describe the Saints running back. That’s why Alvin Kamara is Black Panther.

Michael Thomas has only been in the league for three years, but is the best wide receiver in the league in my opinion. Strength is one of his best traits. If you going to cover him one on one then it’s over. You have to put multiple guys on him and that don’t even help most of the time. This newest avenger maybe the strongest and most powerful of them all we just haven’t got to see it yet, which is kind of like Thomas. I don’t think he’s reached his full potential, just like Captain Marvel. I think the best is yet to come. Former Saints tight end Benjamin Watson nicknamed Thomas “Marvel”. Which is another reason why Michael Thomas is Captain Marvel.

Now we come to the new guy Jared Cook. The big athletic tight end that the Saints have been waiting for. He can make a huge difference in the Saints offense. Some similar traits between Cook and his avenger counterpart are enhanced speed, stamina, strength, agility, and reflexes. Brees (Captain America) has been waiting on a friend like this for awhile, which is why Jared Cook is the Winter Soldier.

Next we have the biggest free agent signing from last year Demario Davis. He was one of the top linebackers in the league last year. When he goes to tackle the ball carrier he punishes him. As a viewer when you hear that crushing, thunderous sound as he’s hitting the opponent, it hurts me sometimes. His avenger character is going to play a big part in beating Thanos in Endgame, just like Davis is going to play a big part in bringing a second Super Bowl to New Orleans. He’s not afraid to drop the hammer down on a person, which is why Demario Davis is Thor.

Marshon Lattimore is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL and he’s only been in the league for two years. Lattimore is young athletic corner that isn’t afraid of big moments. He has the ability to cling to a wide receiver the way this avenger can cling to buildings and walls. Lattimore has some of the best reflex’s in the game. He will turn and locate the ball and snatch it out of the air like he has a Spidey sense or something, which is why Marshon Lattimore is Spider-Man.

Alex Anzalone is another young gifted player the Saints drafted in 2017. He showed off his athleticism this year running down plays and dropping into coverage. I thought him and Davis played well together at the linebacker position. Anzalone made some memorable plays this year including a huge interception against the Los Angeles Rams and a nice hit against the Atlanta Falcons forcing a fumble. He is very deceptive and has sneaky athleticism just like this avenger. Anzalone has been a little under the radar to most football fans (not Saints fans) but I expect him to stand out more this year, just like I expect this avenger to have a major role in defeating Thanos. Alex Anzalone is Ant-Man.

The big guy in the middle Sheldon Rankins was dominating last season. Played run well and was amazing at rushing the passer. Not only is he big but really athletic. Offensive linemen thought he would hit them with power moves and next thing they knew he hit them with a spin move. The avenger he compares to is big and mean but extremely athletic and strong. You never want to face him one on one, which is the same for Rankins. Unfortunately Rankins tore his Achilles in the playoffs last year and probably won’t be back to middle of the season. I expect Rankins to comeback even stronger and be a force to be reckoned with, just like I think this avenger make a major comeback in Avengers Endgame. That is why Sheldon Rankins is The Hulk.

Marcus Davenport was just scratching the surface on his potential last year. When your that big you shouldn’t be able to move that fast. Not only did Davenport tackle viciously but he played the run better than any rookie defensive linemen last year. He could develop into a premier pass rusher in the NFL. This was a tough person to compare to but I started thinking about which avenger has the most potential. This avenger could be one of the strongest out of all the avengers once she develops her powers and learns how to control them. That is why Marcus Davenport is Scarlet Witch.

Onto the Swiss army knife himself Taysom Hill. He has speed, strength, and a cannon for an arm, which makes him very unique. If the defense forgets about him he will make them pay. Hill blast through the defensive lines at times the same way this avenger uses his energy blast to go through his enemies. He also has superhuman strength and speed, which is why Taysom Hill is Vision.

The offensive line was one of the best in the NFL last year. Now they did lose Max Unger to retirement, which is a huge loss. Luckily they was able to add Nick Easton to replace him. The offensive line has to gel well with one another and play as one unit. There is a group in the avengers who came together and became one of the best superhero teams out there and that is The Guardians of the Galaxy. They protect the galaxy and Saints offensive line protects Brees.

Terron Armstead is the leader and the most athletic out of the linemen. Terron Armstead is Star Lord. Andrus Peat being a big force at guard and isn’t afraid to finish a person after he’s down makes him Drax the destroyer. New guy Nick Easton is a Harvard graduate and is a solid pass protector. One guardian is clearly smarter than the rest and protects her own. Nick Easton is Gamora. Larry Warford plays mean and aggressive. Plays both run and pass well. This guardian is very aggressive and doesn’t take anything from anyone. Larry Warford is Rocket Raccoon. Last but not least Ryan Ramczyk is one of the top young tackles in the NFL. This guardian is able to grow dramatically increasing mass which then inhibits movement, just like Ramczyk inhibits pass rushers movement when blocking them. This guardian doesn’t say much, but is extremely strong. Which is why Ryan Ramczyk is Groot.

Wil Lutz was automatic at kicking field goals last year. It’s been awhile since the Saints had a kicker they can count on. That’s one of the reason the Saints gave him a five year contract this offseason. His power and accuracy are a lethal combination for a kicker. It’s also a lethal combination for this avenger. This avenger is an expert marksman and can always be counted on to hit the spot no matter how much pressure is on him. This is why Lutz is Hawkeye.

Next you have one of the best Saints of all time Thomas Morstead. He’s been so consistent throughout his career in New Orleans. He’s got one of the most powerful legs in the game and can angle a punt towards the sideline perfectly, almost like he’s a magician. Which is why Thomas Morstead is Dr. Strange.

Finally we have head coach Sean Payton. He’s become one of the better coaches in the NFL since joining back in 2006. He has great leadership skills and is someone who isn’t afraid of the bright lights and not afraid to take chances. He got these group of men together to form a team. Making them one solid unit. Which is why Sean Payton is Nick Fury.

Lastly we have Roger Goodell, the commissioner of the NFL. He has never really liked the Saints or Sean Payton. So he clearly is the mad titan Thanos. He used the power stone to vanish Sean Payton for a year and the time stone to go back to the NFC Championship game and made the referees not throw the flag. I do expect the Avengers to defeat Thanos in Endgame the same way I believe the Saints will defeat Goodell and win the Super Bowl this upcoming season.
