The New Orleans Saints traded up in the second round to draft Erik McCoy out of Texas A&M with the 48th overall pick. Here’s what the NFL world is saying:
Here’s why I love the selection of Erik McCoy by the New Orleans Saints...

Sean Payton on Erik McCoy: "He’s one of those players that in the process stood out. I think you see his strength on tape in each game you watch. We really had a high grade on him."

Max gone and retired... we must’ve got who we wanted. Welcome the big fella to the Big Easy young Erik Mccoy

Congratulations @Erik_McCoy_73 championship or bust! Welcome to the squad!

Erik McCoy: "When I got on the phone with them, they told me they viewed me as a center, and that’s what they wanted me to come in and play."

New @Saints C Erik McCoy allowed just ONE SACK during his entire three years at Texas A&M. That's 1,528 career pass-blocking snaps and 1 sack. #NFLDraft pic.twitter.com/DSuoEbqfOK

ESPN draft analysts Mel Kiper and Todd McShay both just said they're surprised Saints C Erik McCoy fell as far as he did. Saints obviously felt the same way. McShay and analyst Louis Riddick described him as a "plug-and-play starter."

The Saints said Nick Easton could play center, but he has more NFL experience at guard. It seems like he and Erik McCoy will compete for starting center and the other could be in line as the top interior backup.

"Drew Brees is the best QB in the NFL." Erik McCoy

Congrats to my guy @Erik_McCoy_73

The @Saints just got a great player and an even better man! He’s in good hands with @T_Armstead72 @AndrusPeat @wardaddy_75 #StrikeLeverageDriveFinish https://t.co/VaF5Vp7Jg3
The Saints getting Erik McCoy there is one of the best value picks of the draft so far. He started every game he was available to play at A&M. Can play guard and center equally well. 4.89 40 at the combine w/ 29 lifts.
— Gil Brandt (@Gil_Brandt) April 27, 2019
New Saints C Erik McCoy ran the fastest 40-yard dash of any offensive lineman at the combine. But he didn't quite flirt with the combine record held by Saints OT Terron Armstead (4.71 seconds in 2013).

With the 48th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the #Saints select Erik McCoy, OC, Texas A&M.

Erik McCoy posted a Great #RAS with Good size, Elite speed, Good explosiveness, Poor agility at the OC position. pic.twitter.com/iDqU87380Z
The #Saints select center Erik McCoy from Texas A&M, their Max Unger replacement. A really high-character player who is also good.
