Is it offensive for them to call themselves owners?

The NBA has requested it’s owners to stop referring to themselves by that term as to avoid offending others. With Ms. Gayle Benson being the owner of both the Pelicans and the Saints this has spilled over into her role over both teams. She’s said she will continue to use the term owner.
