The Saints picked Sheldon Rankins 12th in the 2016 NFL Draft and picked up his fifth year option on 4-24-19.

In 2018 Sheldon Rankins had a banner year starting 16 games and recording 8 sacks before going to IR with a torn Achilles tendon.

It was week 4 before he made his return in 2019. He played in 10 games starting none of them and had 2 sacks, recording 7 solo tackles and 3 assist for a total of 10. Most of these were for a loss in the backfield. Rankins suffered an high ankle injury late in the season and was placed on IR again 12-11-19. While this is not considered a serious injury he was not expected to be available until possibly late in the post season. He played 322 snaps or 30% on defense. He should be fully recovered from both the Achilles and ankle injuries by camp.

Rankins AV for the season was a lowly 1. He ranked a 7 in both 2017 and 2018. The limited snaps are largely the reason for this. The Achilles rupture is a major one to overcome in such a short time and would expect it will be 100% in 2020.
