The New Orleans Saints face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the NFC South lead at the halfway point in the season hanging in the balance. The Saints had arguably their best showing of the season against these Bucs in Week 1, but a lot has changed since then. In order to earn this crucial primetime win on the road, the Saints defense will need to rise to the occasion as they did to start the season.
Supremacy is on the line. With the win, the Saints will have swept the season series with Tampa and own the most important tiebreaker in the division. All four teams enter the season looking to rule the NFC South, but only two, these two on Sunday Night, have the chance to actually do it this year. Let’s take a look at this and all of the exciting NFL action in Week 9.
Last week I went 8-6 (Yikes!)
I told you so: Steelers over Ravens!
What do I know: Chargers over Broncos?
Thursday, November 5th - Thursday Night Football
San Francisco is mearly a shadow of the team that dominated Green Bay last season and postseason. This time the Pack gives the Niners some payback. Green Bay wins 35-20.
Sunday, November 8th - Early Games
Giants(1-7) at Washington FT(2-5)
Washington’s defense wont be able to carry them in this divisional matchup. Giants win 28-19.
The running games will be the difference in this one. Tennessee can run the ball extremely effectively, Chicago can't. The Titans snap their surprising 2-game skid. Tennessee wins 26-21.
It’s a pick your poison scenario for Carolina against Kansas City, and Carolina will ingest all of the poison regardless. Kansas City wins 31-13.
Deshaun Watson and Gardner Minshew will be chucking the ball downfield all day long, but Watson will be the one actually having success with it. Houston wins 23-10.
This will be another hard-hitting contest that will come down to Baltimore ultimately making the big stops and converting the short runs in the end. Baltimore wins 28-23.
This will be a good offensive matchup, but Russell Wilson will make the plays Josh Allen can't. Seattle wins 29-21.
Atlanta will lean on their passing game to pull out a home win over the Denver defense. Atlanta wins 26-20.
Sunday, November 8th - Late Games
Heaven help Los Angeles if they get a double-digit lead in this one, it’ll spell certain doom. Las Vegas wins 25-21.
Remember Jets/Chiefs from last week? Here’s the sequel. Pittsburgh wins 38-6.
Arizona will dominate this game on the ground against a surprising Miami team. Arizona wins 30-21.
Sunday Night Football
Saints(5-2) at Buccaneers(6-2) - Game of the Week
I don't like this, frankly, it pains me to admit it, but this doesn't feel like it will be the Saints’ night. Despite a Monday Night performance where Tampa clearly overlooked and disrespected the Giants, they will be focused on this game, a game Tampa can’t afford to drop as it will give the Saints a season sweep over them and the lead in the NFC South.
The Saints defense will be asked to hold back an offense that will test them far more than any offense they have faced since their last loss against Green Bay. We know the Saints defense will shut down Tampa’s run game, but this could be a big game for Tom Brady in the air, with the assist from some loose flags of course. This will be an absolute nail-biter, but Tampa will find victory in the closing moments, leaving the Saints and the fans wondering how close they were to taking a stranglehold on the division. Ugh. Tampa wins 34-31.
Monday, November 9th - Monday Night Football
New England’s defense will shut down the Jets’ ground game, while the Pats’ ground game dominates the night. New England wins 27-7.
There you have it, Week 9 is here, and the Saints have a huge opportunity to seize control of the NFC South. Here’s to the Saints proving me wrong and winning this huge game! Leave us your picks, comments, and insight below!
