CSC’s Fantasy Start/Sit, Saints vs. Falcons: should you start Latavius Murray?

The New Orleans Saints meet the Atlanta Falcons for the second time in three weeks. Should you start Latavius Murray?

Start: Taysom Hill

Hill did not have a good game throwing the ball against the Denver Bronocs, but salvaged his fantasy performance by again rushing for two touchdowns. The Atlanta Falcons defense looked superb against the Las Vegas Raiders last week, causing Derek Carr to turn the ball over four times. However, Hill’s escapability in the pocket and the New Orleans Saints solid offensive line should prevent anything like what happened to the Raiders last week from happening to the Saints on Sunday. Hill’s heavy involvement in the running and passing games once again makes him a must start against a week Falcons defense.

Sit: Todd Gurley

Ne Orleans remains one of the premier run defenses in the NFL, and are currently the top ranked defense against fantasy running backs. Falcons running back Todd Gurley did not play last week against the Raiders, and remains questionable on the current injury report. This could mean Gurley would be on a snap count if he is even able to play this week. Atlanta could go backfield by committee against the Saints especially since backups Ito Smith and Brian Hill ran well against Las Vegas. I do not trust anyone in a committee backfield to score highly against the top ranked run defense, keep all three Atlanta running backs on your bench.

Start: Latavius Murray

The Falcons rush defense is currently ranked sixth in the NFL. This is aided by the fact that their pass defense is so porous that teams tend to over pass against Atlanta, leading them to face the second fewest rush attempts in the NFL. Their yards per carry is much more middle of the pack however ranking 16th. So, if you want to run on the Falcons, all you have to do is commit to the ground attack and you should have success. Murray has been getting more touches than Alvin Kamara with Taysom Hill at quarterback, so if he remains heavily involved in the offense, he should garner FLEX consideration.
