More Love to New Orleans in CBS mock draft

It’s still mock draft season, and the Saints opt for a quarterback of the future in CBS’s recent mock.

A new wide receiver to pair with Michael Thomas? Who needs ‘em? Mickey Loomis and the New Orleans Saints front office apparently felt that way at the 2019 NFL trade deadline, so why should that position change? (Aside from the fact that the Saints ended up losing in the playoffs...)

While most mock drafts have one of Laviska Shenault Jr., Justin Jefferson, Henry Ruggs III, or Tee Higgins going to New Orleans with the 24th overall pick, others, like in the newest CBS mock draft, have predicted the Saints instead choose their new franchise quarterback. And which quarterback would that be? Utah State’s Jordan.

Both Drew Brees and Teddy Bridgewater could return in 2020 — and that would be ideal for Love, who will need a season or two on the bench before he’s ready. He’s drawn comparisons to Pat Mahomes because of his athleticism, arm strength and playmaking abilities, but Love is coming off a rough junior season for the Aggies, though he looked much sharper in Mobile during the Senior Bowl. And, no, we’re not buying the ‘Taysom Hill, future franchise QB’ talk. Pats WR Mohamed Sanu has better passing numbers than Hill.

Of note, of the wide receivers listed above, only Ruggs was off the board by the 24th pick. Laviska Shenault went to the Green Bay Packers with the 30th overall pick and neither LSU’s Justin Jefferson or Clemson’s Tee Higgins were selected in the first round at all.

On defense, linebacker Kenneth Murray from Oklahoma went to the Oakland Raiders 19th overall and cornerback CJ Henderson out of Florida went to the Philadelphia Eagles 21st overall - both defensive players have been mocked to New Orleans in previous drafts.

So what says you, Who Dat Nation? Are you liking this Love pick? Let me know in the comments. Send me presents.
