The Saints threw us a curve ball in the 1st round taking center Cesar Ruiz out of Michigan The Saints don’t have a 2nd round pick. They traded away last year to move up for center Erik McCoy. That means baring a move by the team we are scheduled to pick at 88 in the third round. The day 2 Draft starts at 6 PM Central time. Sean Payton thinks more of Cesar Ruis than many fans.
Payton: "We weren't drafting (Ruiz) that high to be a backup" #SaintsDraft

I would be a bit surprised if the Saints don’t move back into the second round and would expect them to go defense either there or in the 3rd round. Also the 1st round of the 2020 NFL draft went surprisingly smoothly.
Remember the Saints already had a good core of players and addressed some prime needs during free agency. This gives them the flexibility to draft the best player available on their board. They don’t have to stretch for someone because of need.
There are plenty of quality defensive players left as well as wide receivers. With the top wide receiver gone, I still like Chase Claypool especially in these rounds. His combine numbers were very good. He is 6’4”, 238 lbs, and still managed to run a 4.42. He benched 225, 19 times, and the big man had an impressive 40.5 vertical. He would complement Michael Thomas nicely. The Saints like to move players and he could very well play tightend. Time will tell what surprising direction the Saints take in day two.
I can’t wait to hear these words, “The Saints are on the Clock”.
