The New Orleans Saints traded up to the 74th pick by dealing the Cleveland Browns the 88th pick as well a future third-round pick in order to make the move. Linebacker Zack Baun was the selection, and initially it seems to be a good fit for the player and team.

Baun was seen by some as a potential late first-round to early second-round talent. The Wisconsin linebacker kept sliding and the Saints felt they could move up and take a player that added value at the margins.

Despite being a smaller sized player (which may have caused his slide), Baun has some interesting qualities, namely his athleticism. After being selected, Baun said he would do whatever it takes to help make an impact on the team, to include getting bigger.

Unlike the pick of Cesar Ruiz in the first-round, this selection was fairly well received by the entire Saints fanbase. In our poll at Canal Street Chronicles, over 65% of community members gave the 74th selection of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Saints an “A” grade.

Baun is an athletic linebacker from a proven program, and he has the raw talent to make a difference on an NFL team. He may not be a full-time starter to begin his career, but adds insurance to a position group that has several question marks heading into the 2020 season. He will need time to develop, but at the 74th pick this was an excellent selection.

Overall draft grade: A-
