New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson “progressing well” following positive coronavirus diagnosis

The Saints have been vastly unscathed on the player side, but another important figure is diagnosed with COVID-19

As the New Orleans Saints continue along with training camp and preparing for the opening of the NFL season just over two weeks away, they and other teams around the NFL do their best to ward off coronavirus threats. While player personnel has remained healthy despite a few false positives and opt outs, there have still been some foundation-shaking positives in the building.

Today, Amie Just and Ramon Vargas of The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate broke the news that the team’s owner Gayle Benson has been diagnosed with the coronavirus. According to the team, the diagnoses came within the last two weeks, Benson is receiving daily treatment and doing well.

Hearing that there has been no hospitalization in the case per Nick Underhill and that her condition is improving daily is good news. The Athletic’s Katherine Terrell also provided that the Saints and Pelicans owner was seen at practice in a golf cart at least on August 17th.

Head coach Sean Payton was diagnosed as well back in March and made a full recovery of his symptoms after self-isolating. We certainly wish Gayle Benson the same speedy recovery. The Saints organization did release the following statement.

We will update here as more information become available.
