Another New Orleans Saints player has been added to the NFL’s Covid list. This time, it’s backup running back and special teamer Dwayne Washington.
Two players have been added to the reserve/COVID list: Panthers DB Derrek Thomas and Saints RB Dwayne Washington. Now four players on that list around the league.— Field Yates (@FieldYates) August 30, 2020
Remember: being added to the Covid list does not mean a player has tested positive for Covid. It could be they were exposed to someone else who has tested positive, or it could - as has been the case with every other Saints player who has previously found themselves on the Covid list at one point this offseason - be a case of a false positive test.
It’s unknown right now the details of Washington’s Covid status, but a true positive test would potentially be coming at one of the worst possible times. The Saints are but days removed from a full team practice inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, and if Washington was indeed infected with coronavirus, he could have unintentionally exposed a significant portion of the team, less than two weeks out from opening kickoff.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become known. For now, let’s all hope for the best for both Washington and the entire Saints organization.
