Covid not expected to slow down Saints against Jets on Sunday

The Saints defense isn’t expected be lit up by the Jets.

The bad news for the New Orleans Saints just keep coming. Instead of a rash of additional injuries, the Saints are dealing with another Covid-19 outbreak. Running back Alvin Kamara looks ready to return from injury, but running backs Mark Ingram and Ty Montgomery are set to miss the game due to positive Covid tests. Defensive end Cam Jordan has also tested positive for Covid, and is expected to miss Sunday’s contest against the struggling New York Jets.

According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Saints are currently 5.5 favorites, and most of the NFL media expects the Saints to cover the spread against the Jets despite the Covid concerns.

Once again, it’s all but Davenport in agreement. This time, the rest of the gang is laying 5.5 points with the slumping New Orleans Saints in New York for a matchup with a Jets team that habitually loses big.

“We’re getting some value out of the Saints’ five-game losing streak,” Gagnon said. “That’s gotta end eventually, and Sean Payton’s team is very likely to at least get back in the win column against a 3-9 team with the league’s worst scoring defense. That’s all you have to believe in order to back New Orleans, because each of the Jets’ last eight losses have come by seven or more points.”

In fact, four of the last five have come by 15-plus points. And now they could be without emerging rookie receiver Elijah Moore (quad), while the Saints might get star rusher Alvin Kamara back from a knee injury.

The Saints aren’t great, but Davenport appears to be taking a much bigger risk than his colleagues in this spot.

Davenport: New York

Gagnon: New Orleans

Kenyon: New Orleans

Pro Football Talk

MDS’s take: The Saints are still in contention for a wild card, and I think they’re going to look better than people expect over the final month of the season.

MDS’s pick: Saints 27, Jets 17.

Florio’s take: Best way to end a five-game losing? Play the Jets.

Florio’s pick: Saints 24, Jets 13.

CBS Sports

The Saints got a mini bye after playing Thursday last week, which was much needed with all the injuries. The Jets have played better lately, but I think they will struggle against a good New Orleans defense to move the ball. The Jets can’t stop anybody - even Taysom Hill. Saints take it.

Pick: Saints 28, Jets 20
