If the Saints win/lose vs Jets

It’s only the Jets, right?

On Sunday, the New Orleans Saints will travel to MetLife Stadium for a date with the New York Jets. A game that appeared as a shoe in win at the beginning of the season, now seems like a game the Saints could easily lose if they continue to make the same offensive mistakes that have plagued this team for 5 straight weeks. The season is indeed on the line this Sunday, can the Saints rise above and return to New Orleans a victor?

If the Saints win:

If the Saints win, they’d move to 6-7. While still in the hole, that would keep them in the race for the final wildcard spot as they would share that record with a number of teams, including the Minnesota Vikings who just etched past the Steelers. A date with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers looms in the future next week, so it would help to have some small spark of momentum against what will surely be a very emotional game against the team that sent Jameis Winston home for the rest of the season.

If the Saints lose:

If the Saints lose, things become a bit more complicated. I’d like to believe that would be the beginning of the end for this season. Moving to 5-8 would make the hole a bit too deep to climb out of for this current team. Even if they were to win out with every game post Tampa Bay, I’m not sure that would be enough to secure a wildcard spot with the way other teams are beginning to heat up.

A loss to the Jets would also be the type of embarrassment that would mentally break a team that’s already spiraling downward like this one is. With Tampa Bay on the other side of this, New Orleans doesn’t need to go into that game feeling sorry for themselves. Although the Jets are nothing to brag about, this game needs to be taken seriously. To put it simply, the Saints need to handle business.

Last week for the Cowboys, I didn’t put a score prediction as I didn’t feel comfortable enough to do so. This week, with Alvin Kamara returning to the lineup providing a much-needed spark, I feel more confident in a bold prediction.

I think the Saints will figure it out against New York, they quite honestly don’t have much of a choice.

Prediction: 21-10 Saints
