Saints DE Cam Jordan believes Jameis Winston is next up at Saints quarterback

Jordan gave his thoughts on Morten Andersen’s Great Dane Nation Podcast

The biggest question looming over the New Orleans Saints offseason is easily: Who will be under center next year? With Drew Brees’s presumed retirement looming, there have been questions about whether it will be Jameis Winston, Taysom Hill, or someone outside of the organization.

Saints defense end Cameron Jordan doesn’t necessarily know who will be slinging for the Saints next year, but when asked by Morten Andersen on Andersen’s “Great Dane Nation Podcast” if Hill was up next for the Saints, Jordan had a different answer.

“Jameis Winston up next I believe, is what Sean Payton said,” Jordan said. “...Sean wouldn’t say he’s ‘fighting for Jameis to be back’ if our goal was to have Taysom, but that’s — again — rare instances where that’s above my paygrade. Rare!”

In early February, Payton advocated for the re-signing of Winston.

“Jameis Winston, we know,” Payton had said via ESPN. “We had a year with him. He was fantastic as a leader. He’s got tremendous arm talent. He’s a young prospect that we like a lot.”

It isn’t, of course, that straightforward. Payton had also said that he thought the next Saints quarterback was “in the building,” which would include Hill.

Nothing is set in stone, and Brees hasn’t even officially retired yet. While it sounds like Jordan is extrapolating from how he knows Payton likes to operate, the Saints tend to have a trick or two up their sleeve. This offseason is shaping up to be a formative one for the Saints, but the quarterback has to be addressed before other dominoes can start to fall in New Orleans.
