Saints continue flurry of cap moves with release of Malcom Brown

Expect more moves to come.

And now Malcom Brown.

The New Orleans Saints continue to maneuver around the 2021 salary cap, this time by releasing veteran defensive tackle Malcom Brown.

If you will recall, the Saints were reportedly trying to trade Brown two weeks ago, with the knowledge of an inevitable release on the horizon. It doesn’t appear any team was willing to trade anything of substance for the 27-year-old, since they knew they could simply sign him on the open market after his release.

And here we are. The Saints have released Brown and are still somewhere around $15 million over the cap (give or take). They should be able to clear this number with upcoming extensions to - hopefully - Marshon Lattimore, Ryan Ramczyk, Marcus Williams, and Terron Armstead. A release of Patrick Robinson and a restructure/extension of Taysom Hill could also happen soon.

Stay tuned for more news.
