It finally happened.
Future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints has announced his retirement. And so it begins.
While everyone was trying to gather their thoughts and willpower on a Sunday afternoon after losing an hour of sleep the night before due to Daylight Saving Time, Drew Brees decided to drop a bomb on the Who Dat Nation and announce his retirement.
Fans, former teammates, and long-time rivals all took to Twitter to share their reactions to the inevitable news of Drew Brees riding off into the sunset. Here are some of the best reactions from #SaintsTwitter as fans, media, and players react to the now-former Saints quarterback breaking the news:
You came to us at our lowest point.
— New Orleans Saints (@Saints) March 14, 2021
You led us to our highest.
You represented our state, city, and team with incredible professionalism, class, and toughness.
We are forever grateful for the immeasurable impact you and your family had on this city. #ThankYouDrew pic.twitter.com/HljWp4NG2K

Drew Brees and Philip Rivers could enter the Hall of Fame together.
With the news of @drewbrees' retirement today, he would first be eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2026.@Chargers I @Saints pic.twitter.com/xoksMLNYZV

I’m glad I have very little left to say...It was an honor. It was a privilege. I didn’t take it for granted, and I’m thankful for every minute I got to spend with him. Above all, @drewbrees is an All-pro person... honestly, that’s all that matters. Congrats buddy.

Traditionally, the #Saints have refrained from retiring jersey numbers. But no one should ever wear No. 9 in New Orleans again. pic.twitter.com/eFvFCSishw

I’m not good enough with words to articulate what Drew Brees means to me, my Saints family, New Orleans and more. What a privilege as a Saints fan to enjoy his greatness for 15 years. Eternally grateful.
