The deal is actually an increase from the number we saw him sign for last season, possibly due to the versatility he showed, playing more safety than corner.
P.J. Williams signed for $2.012 million last season. $2.3 million for this year is actually slight raise.

Including the postseason, Williams played 288 snaps at free safety and only 182 snaps at either slot or wide corner in 2020. His total of 527 snaps played was by far his lowest count since his rookie year.
While he showed some versatility by playing deep safety a good but, he did struggle in that role, allowing some big plays in coverage busts and not having the speed to make up for it.
However, this is purely a depth signing for a guy who can play any position in the secondary and has spent his entire five-year career in New Orleans. Considering the loss of Janoris Jenkins recently, that depth could come in handy next year.
