The New Orleans Saints second trade up of the 2021 Draft has landed them Landon Young, an Offensive Tackle out of the University of Kentucky. Young will be a backup in 2021, as the Saints have one of the best tandems at OT in the NFL with Terron Armstead and Ryan Ramczyk.

Young is a decent prospect who was a four-year starter at Kentucky and a team captain during his senior year. He was named to one of the All-SEC teams in 2019 and 2020, and was part of an offensive line that was a two-time semifinalist for the Joe Moore award, which recognizes the best offensive line in college football.

If Young looks good in practice and develops well, he could be a safety net if the Saints are unable to come to a contract agreement with Ramczyk or Armstead beyond this year.

Young has been working on his versatility this offseason, and believes he can play every position on the offensive line. If he is able to play on the interior he is much more likely to see action this season, as the Guard position has had more question marks around it compared to Tackle.

The front office was clearly very high on him, as they traded up in order to select the Kentucky product. The Seattle Seahawks were likely the team they felt the need to jump ahead of, as they selected a Tackle just two picks after the Saints took Young. It will be interesting to see how he develops in the next few years, and if he ever winds up taking over for Armstead or Ramczyk.
