5 Saints make Pete Prisco’s Top 100

But there is a case that it should have been more.

Gone are the days when the New Orleans Saints offensive stars were headlined by future Hall of Famer Drew Brees. Instead, players like Tre’Quan Smith, Deonte Harris, and Adam Trautman will try to make themselves household names. In the meantime, it is the usual stars like Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas who represented the Saints in CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco’s Top 100 NFL Players of 2021.

Only five Saints made the list at all, the aforementioned Kamara and Thomas, and Cameron Jordan, who came in the highest at 32:

He was a dominant force on the edge of the Saints defense, even if his sack numbers fell from 15.5 to 7.5 last season. He still had a lot of pressures and made life tough for opposing quarterbacks.

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara was only a few spots behind at 37:

He’s one of the special air backs in the league, capable of beating you in the passing game and with his ability to run inside. I just wish he got more carries.

Just on the other side of the Top 50 was 2019 Offensive Player of the Year Michael Thomas:

His 2020 season was a disappointment in a lot of ways. He was hurt for much of the year, suspended by the team for a game for a practice-field altercation, and had career lows in catches, touchdowns and yardage. He played just 10 regular-season games and was clearly not the same player he was the two prior seasons.

Demario Davis, one of the most under-appreciated players in the entire NFL came in just a tick lower at 61:

He wasn’t quite as good as he was the year before, but he remained a good player on their defense. He is a player who can run to the football and do a lot of good things in coverage. He doesn’t get the due he deserves.

Terron Armstead, the Saints Pro Bowl left tackle made the list at 80:

He continues to be an outstanding pass protector on the left side of the Saints line. Entering his ninth season, he’s also improved as a run blocker, which is important with Drew Brees now retired.

Saints safety Marcus Williams, right tackle Ryan Ramczyk, and cornerback Marshon Lattimore all failed to crack Prisco’s Top 100. For those curious and keeping track, the Saints’ five isn’t any to scoff at - the Super Bowl Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers had eight players make the list, but the Atlanta Falcons had four while the Carolina Panthers only had two.
