The good news continue rolling in for the New Orleans Saints.
This time, Pro Bowl place kicker Wil Lutz is reportedly set to miss the opening portion of the 2021 season.
#Saints kicker Pro Bowl Wil Lutz, who left Saturday’s practice early, will visit Dr. William Meyers in the coming days and be evaluated for a potential core muscle surgery, sources say. That knocks position players out 8 weeks, but as a kicker, it could be longer.

Lutz had been dealing with a prior groin injury that Mickey Loomis previously called “minor” when Loomis confidently asserted the team would not need to try out any extra kickers. Lutz apparently aggravated his injury during camp, and now the “pessimistic timeline” for Wil Lutz’s return is 12 weeks according to NewOrleans.football’s Nick Underhill.
Back in January, the Saints tried out kickers Chandler Catanzaro and Blair Walsh, both of whom remain free agents. Early murmurings indicate the Saints are set to bring in other kickers in the coming days.
