New Orleans Saints All-Pro wide receiver Michael Thomas has been placed on the physically unable to perform list to start the NFL season after undergoing ankle surgery. This move will keep Thomas sidelined for the first six weeks of the NFL season. With the Saints having an early bye, that would only keep Thomas out for six games.

This was an expected move for Michael Thomas to start the season on the PUP list. He still remains on a positive timetable to return to the team after those six weeks. The Saints will adjust accordingly to survive this move, most likely relying heavily on break-out star Marquez Callaway.

Thomas underwent ankle surgery late in the offseason. The Saints have a bye week 6, so a positive return would be week 7 against the Seattle Seahawks.
