Saints Sit/Start: Week 12

Which Saints players make roster against the Falcons?

NFL: Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

As we kick-off Week 12 of the NFL season with full bellies and watching Thanksgiving football, fantasy league play didn’t rest. With the New Orleans Saints coming off a bye week, they face off against their rival, the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, November 26th. Although the Saints are sitting at a 5-5 record, they are #1 in the NFC South currently. As we look at who to start/sit on this week, the Saints have taken some blows yet again. Let’s take a look at who will lace up the cleats and ride the bench this week.

Derek Carr- Sit

Dennis Allen said Carr practiced fully Wednesday, but still needs to be cleared before removal from concussion protocol. Due to a concussion and a right shoulder injury, Carr had to leave the Saints’ last game against Minnesota early. In spite of the fact that his shoulder checked out OK after the game, he entered the five-step concussion protocol. Due to the Week 11 bye, Carr appears to be on the verge of clearing the fifth and final phase of the protocol listed as questionable. If he does clear protocol, risking your fantasy points could be a big gamble.

Michael Thomas- Sit

On the opening drive of the team’s last game the Minnesota Vikings, Thomas sustained a knee injury and was unable to return. During a Week 11 bye, Dennis Allen said Thomas was “going to take some time” to get healthy. With the veteran wideout possibly to be sidelined, Rashid Shaheed and rookie sixth-rounder A.T. Perry should handle expanded roles and get you some points on the fantasy boards if you have no other options on your roster. Even if he is cleared to play on Sunday, he might have a more limited role. If you have a more healthy WR, I would probably swap them in.

Chris Olave- Start

With Michael Thomas out, expect Olave to be the main reception target. In the game against the Vikings, Olave tallied 6 receptions for 94 yards. Expect to see a lot of plays targeted at him for passing against the Atlanta Falcons.

A.T. Perry- Start

Going into Sunday’s game against the Falcons, he had 38 receiving yards with 2 receptions and 1 TD against Minnesota. Expect more of Perry on the field since Michael Thomas may be out or carry a lighter role if he is cleared to play.

Taysom Hill- Start

With Hill being the most versatile player on the Saints, expect him to play multiple positions from QB to TE. It is possible for Carr to make and clear protocol before Sunday’s game play, BUT he may be rotated periodically due to the nature of his injury recovery.
