As we head into week 15, the New Orleans Saints are taking on the New York Giants. Again, the Saints are suffering on offense. Carr is still not healthy or at least not 100% to start. The team is still missing Thomas and Olave, so fantasy points from them is obsolete at this point if they hold a place on your roster. Taysom Hill is probably the only player that would make sense to gamble on starting. Let’s take a look at who to sit/start this week.
Derek Carr- Sit
Since suffering a concussion and rib and right shoulder issues Week 10 at Minnesota, Carr has avoided the first practice report of the week. He has cleared the head injury protocol twice before New Orleans’ last three games, and he has “up to” three rib fractures. As the team prepares for Sunday’s game against the Giants, Carr’s health concerns won’t affect his practice reps. Some think he needs to sit out and fully recover and let Jameis Winston start. Probably best to find another option this week, yet again.
Taysom Hill- Start
After back-to-back capped sessions, he returned to all activity on Friday, clearing the way for his return. Thus, Hill will continue to play his usual gadget role for the Saints.
Chris Olave- Sit
Olave missed practice both Wednesday and Thursday due to an ankle injury, and coach Dennis Allen said Friday that his availability for Week 15 will be determined “right up until the last minute” before Sunday’s kickoff. In the past five games, Olave has either recorded 100 receiving yards or a touchdown, so his status is crucial for New Orleans’ offense.
Alvin Kamara- Start
The Saints totaled 207 yards of offense on Sunday, so Kamara’s 45 yards from scrimmage were his fewest of the season by a wide margin (70 yards against the Bears in Week 9 marked his previous low). In addition, his nine-yard scramble to the end zone in the first quarter was his sixth touchdown of the season.
Michael Thomas- Sit
Still on Injured Reserve so find another WR to start in his place.
Blake Grupe- Sit
Sunday marked Grupe’s first miss within 29 yards this season, as he missed from 29 yards or less on his lone field-goal attempt. This season, the undrafted rookie is 24-for-31 on field-goal attempts, and he’s 0-for-1 over the past two weeks. In spite of that, he has now converted all 27 of his point-after-tries this season. As of Friday, Grupe was questionable due to a lingering grain issue. The Saints will face the Giants on Sunday and he will try to overcome this issue once again.
Rashid Shaheed- Sit
Shaheed is still listed as questionable with a thigh injury.
Saints Defense- Sit
Cameron Jordan: Ankle
Marcus Maye: Shoulder
Pete Werner: Oblique
